My Trip to Sanoviv

I was so excited to visit Sanoviv again in February 2012, hadn’t been there since 2006. Sanoviv Medical Institute, a licensed hospital, combines cutting-edge diagnostics, nutrition, detoxification & medical treatments. My trip was a combination of business & personal medical program with my husband. The first five days was a health education retreat where I learned more about digestion and detoxification. A few tips:

  • Chew your food. Proper chewing is one of the easiest ways to improve our digestion. Do you chew 30-50 times per bite? Oh my, I don’t know about you but this reminder hit me hard. We are always in such a rush that most people barely chew their food. It was amazing to me that it took a few days to get used to eating more slowly. I must admit, eating is a more pleasurable experience when I slow down.
  • Gut Health. 90% of all nutrients are absorbed in the small intestine. Damage to our gut can be a root cause of many chronic health conditions such as food allergies and autoimmune conditions. We can correct or prevent damage by removing the offenders, replacing with fiber and digestive enzymes, adding probiotics and commit to consistent digestive support.
  • BREATHE. Wow you would think this would be an easy one. I am talking about proper belly breathing. Most of us breathe very shallow during the day especially when we are busy or stressed. It takes practice, I know as I continue to work on this, to develop and maintain proper breathing habits. Take a few moments right now to concentrate on breathing in with your belly rising and then out while your belly goes down. Just 5 minutes a day can make you feel more refreshed and energetic.
  • Detoxify. It is so important to take time out to detoxify our bodies from the stress, toxins, and certain foods we eat and unplug from technology. It is amazing how good you can feel after only a few days. I must admit the unplugging from technology was a little stressful at first lol.

Here are a few simple tips to you can do at home:

  • Body brushing – using a soft, long-handled brush, take seven minutes to brush your skin with smooth strokes, always brushing toward the heart
  • Observing one liquid-only day each week, whether or not you are actively detoxing
  • Drinking green juice as your snack once or twice a day
  • Choosing Brazil nuts each day as a source of selenium
  • Eating or drinking a healthy probiotic supplement (we recommend USANA) at least three times per week to support healthy digestion (do not mix the probiotics with anything hot, as that may kill the good bacteria before it can help your body)
  • Foot and hand massages at least weekly – do it yourself or trade with a partner.
  • Drinking at least 64 ounces of clean water daily
  • Eating water-rich fruit (especially melons and citrus) alone, without any other foods, so your body can more easily digest them.
  • Staying away from granulated sugar and chemical substitutes
  • Deep, rounded belly breathing
  • Wearing organic cotton or bamboo clothing that allow your skin to breathe.
  • Getting a full night’s sleep – every night.  If you need assistance relaxing, we recommend deep breathing, meditation, and USANA’s PureRest

 Taking time to take care of ourselves is so important. I had lots of time to reflect while at Sanoviv. I met so many wonderful people from all over the world during my 13 day stay. It is truly amazing to see people’s health improve simply after a few days of eating organic food, de-stressing in a non-toxic environment – and that is before any treatments!! Seeing the changes in my hubby already these past few months is a blessing as well. His digestion is improved, he has lost 16 pounds in a month and is more committed to living a healthy lifestyle. Whewee it’s about time. 

I left Sanoviv with an even deeper passion and purpose to provide people with all the pieces of the puzzle to help them reach their health & wellness goals.
